Gazprom showed Growth of indicators in 2024 / by Sergey Pravosudov, Director of “The National Energy Institute” / 01.10.2025
Gazprom is the world leader in stocks and natural gas production.
Stocks
In 2024, for the twentieth year in a row, gas reserves increased faster than production. Projects were implemented to improve the efficiency of existing fields.
For December 31, 2024 in the territory of Russia reserves of hydrocarbons of the Gazprom Group of categories A+B1+C1 made 27.8 trillion CBM of natural gas, 1.2 billion tons of gas condensate and 1.8 billion tons of oil including stocks of the organizations, investments into which are classified as joint operations, in the share falling on Gazprom Group – 264.9 billion cubic meters of gas, 3.1 million tons of gas condensate and 3.7 million tons of oil. Total volume of reserves of hydrocarbons of Gazprom Group of categories A+B1+C1 is about 204 billion barrels in oil equivalent.
Almost half (45%) of Gazprom Group’s proven natural gas reserves are located in actively developing new gas production regions, as well as in fields that provide stable production in the well-researched Nadym-Pur-Taz region and the European part of Russia. There are 31% of explored reserves of natural gas on the fields located on the shelf of the Russian Federation.
As of December 31, 2024, the hydrocarbon reserves of the A+B1+C1 categories of associated organizations and joint ventures in Gazprom Group’s share amounted to 1.5 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, 141.5 million tons of gas condensate, and 738.1 million tons of oil.
Reserves of gas of Gazprom Group increased generally due to exploration works. Among other factors of growth of stocks there is a receiving by Gazprom Group of control over activity of LLC Sakhalin Energy.
The main regions of carrying out exploration works are the Yamal Peninsula, Nadym-Pur-Taz region, shelf of the Barents Sea, the Kara Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, Eastern Siberia and the Far East, as well as the European part of Russia.
In 2024 Gazprom Group executed 3 thousand sq.km of seismic works 3D in the territory of the Russian Federation for the purpose of search and investigation of hydrocarbons, 372 linear km of 2D seismic exploration, 124,800 m of rock drilling, 23 exploration and evaluation wells completed, 21 wells producing during testing.
Following the results of 2024 in the territory of Russia the gain of reserves of hydrocarbons on categories A+B1+C1 as a result of prospecting works was 447.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 5.7 million tons of gas condensate and 58.5 million tons of oil. The most significant gain of reserves of gas is received on fields of the continental shelf of the Russian Federation in the Kara Sea (Antipayutinsk, of V.A. Dinkov, Leningrad) and also on Harasaveysky gas-condensate field on the Yamal Peninsula. The A. Zhagrin and Priobskoye fields in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra region account for the largest share of oil production.
Without the organizations, investments into which are classified as joint operations, 72.9 billion rubles are directed to production of exploration works in 2024 (with the VAT), average costs of completion of explored reserves of hydrocarbons made in reporting year 21.6 rub for 1 barrel of oil equivalent, efficiency of exploration works – 27.1 thousand barrels of oil equivalent on 1 m of driving. The Gazprom Group’s well-structured organization contributes to the low cost of exploration.
In 2024, an oil field was discovered in the Tomsk Region, named Nezhdanny Mys, as well as 36 new deposits at previously discovered fields in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra, the Tomsk and Orenburg Regions, and on the Kara Sea shelf. In addition, Gazprom Group carried out geological exploration in 2024 to prepare underground gas storage facilities (UGS) at a cost of 3.4 billion rubles, and to search for and evaluate hydro-mineral reserves at a cost of 4.3 billion rubles.
Production
In 2024 the extraction of natural and associated gas of the Gazprom Group, taking into account a share in production of the organizations, investments into which are classified as joint operations, was 420.1 billion cubic meters that there is more than the indicator of 2023 on 61.1 billion cubic meters. Last year growth of internal consumption, providing obligations for supply of gas to the People’s Republic of China along «east» route and also receiving by the Gazprom Group of control over activity of LLC Sakhalin Energy at the end of March, 2024 had significant effect on increase in volumes of gas production by Gazprom Group.
The maximum level of daily gas production by Gazprom Group during the autumn and winter period 2024/2025 was recorded on December 2, 2024 at the level of 1,366.5 million cubic meters.
Volumes of production and their distribution between the operating centers of gas production are defined by the company proceeding from need of ensuring reliable supply of gas to the Russian consumers and also implementation of export obligations with the arriving requests for additional volumes. Last year, both Gazprom’s new gas production centers in Yamal, Irkutsk, and Yakutsk, as well as the traditional gas production center in the Nadym-Pur-Taz region, showed an increase in gas production.
In the Nadym-Pur-Tazovsky region, Gazprom Group is comprehensively addressing the issue of maximizing the efficient and rational development of its reserves, consistently involving complex deposits, particularly the Achimov and Jurassic deposits, in production.
Last year, industrial hydrocarbon production began at the 3A section of the Achimov deposits at the Urengoy oil and gas condensate field (OGCF), and the development of the Semakovskoye Gas Field (GF) was continued as part of a joint venture with Gazprom’s Russian partner.
In 2024 development of already developed fields of the Yakut and Irkutsk centers of gas production continued. On the Kovykta gas condensate field in 2024 the start in work completed the construction of the third Integrated gas treatment plant (Integrated gas treatment plant -1) with a productivity 6.9 billion cubic meters, stage-by-stage increase in number of operational wells and installation and construction works on Integrated gas treatment plant -45 platform with a performance of 6.9 billion cubic meters were conducted. On Chayandinskoye oil and gas field, construction and commissioning of booster compressor capacities of the central booster compressor station for ensuring supply of gas from the Kovykta gas-condensate field in the main gas pipeline (MGP), construction and connection of operational gas wells continued. Increase in capacities on these fields provided planned increasing production of gas which comes to MGP Force of Siberia.
In 2024, the level of beneficial use of associated petroleum gas in Gazprom Group fields in Russia was 96.1%. Measures to increase the use of associated petroleum gas are being systematically implemented – construction of new and reconstruction of existing facilities for its preparation, transportation, processing, as well as facilities for the generation of heat and electricity.
In 2024 Gazprom Group extracted 75.95 million tons of oil and gas condensate in the territory of Russia. Increase in volumes of extraction of liquid hydrocarbons is caused, in particular, by receiving by Group of control over activity of LLC Sakhalin Energy, input in full-scale operation of Achimov deposits 3A of Urengoy oil and gas condensate field and also input of new capacities on the Kovykta gas condensate field. The Chonskaya group of fields in Eastern Siberia has implemented oil monetization using mobile infrastructure.
The associated organizations and joint ventures in the share falling on Gazprom Group extracted 24.9 billion cubic meters of natural and associated gas and also 15.5 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons.
Gas transportation
The gas-transport system (GTS) of the company, the most extended in the world, is a basis of reliable gas supply of the Russian consumers. Last year on GTS the record volume of gas is supplied to domestic market. It clearly demonstrates steady development of the Russian economy and the social sphere. Gazprom actively helps this growth.
Gazprom is the owner and the operator of the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) of Russia – a centralized system on production, preparation, transportation, processing and storage of natural gas. The Unified Gas Supply System includes the world’s largest system of high-pressure gas pipelines in the European part of Russia and Western Siberia. Besides, Gazprom owns main gas pipeline in the east of the country among which there are such main gas pipelines as Force of Siberia, Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok, Sobolevo – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Gas transmission subsidiaries of PJSC Gazprom also carry out operation and service of the main gas pipelines (generally gas pipeline branches) which are on balance of the organizations which are not entering into Group. Unique by the size and qualitative parameters gas transport system provides high reliability of supply of gas to consumers.
As of December 31, 2024 the extent of the main gas pipelines and gas pipeline branches operated by gas transmission societies of Gazprom Group in the territory of the Russian Federation reached 181.6 thousand km, mainly owing to commissioning of new main gas pipeline.
In 2024 602.9 billion cubic meters of gas – 38.6 billion cubic meters more, than in 2023 came to gas-transport system of Gazprom in the territory of Russia. Increase in this indicator was caused by gain of scopes of supply of gas to consumers in and outside the Russian Federation.
Last year PJSC Gazprom according to the legislation provided non-discriminatory access to the gas-transport system gas pipelines in the territory of the Russian Federation to 17 independent companies which are not entering into the Group and having the license for gas production and also the contract with the buyer of their gas. 146.4 billion Cubic meters of gas were transported.
Reliability of gas supply, technical and environmental safety of transportation of gas are ensured by continuous development of gas-transport system in the territory of Russia – reconstruction and modernization, modernization of the operating capacities, also creation of new, hi-tech gas pipelines. The actions aimed at reliability assurance and safety of a linear part of main gas pipeline (capital repairs and scheduled maintenance) are defined and carried out proceeding from technical condition and risk at operation of objects.
In 2024 diagnostics was carried out by method of intra pipe defectoscopy of 33.9 thousand km of main gas pipeline, 953 strings of underwater transitions were surveyed. Capital repairs of 389.7 km of main gas pipeline and 11 strings of underwater transitions are executed. Last year within the Investment program the complex of works on reconstruction and modernization of gas transmission capacities of PJSC Gazprom, including a linear part of main gas pipeline and also a compressor station and gas-distributing station was carried out. Performance of these actions promoted decrease in an indicator of accident rate on a linear part of main gas pipeline in 2024 almost twice in comparison with the previous years.
Last year the planned increasing supply of gas on main gas pipeline Force of Siberia to China continued, rather previous year supply of gas on main gas pipeline Turkish Stream and Blue Stream grew. During the winter period 2023/2024 at the level of the maximum technical capability deliveries to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan on main gas pipeline Central Asia-Center in the reverse mode were provided.
The reliability and accuracy of measurements of volume of gas in the course of its transportation is provided employment metrological services of gas transmission societies of Gazprom Group. Construction, reconstruction and modernization of infrastructure for measurement of consumption of gas on objects of Unified Gas Supply System of Russia are carried out.
Last year three gas-measuring stations (GMS) on borders of zones of balance responsibility of gas transmission societies of the Gazprom Group were constructed and put into operation. The introduced GMS has an innovative single-line GMS measuring complex based on the Vympel 500 ultrasonic flow transducer. Large-diameter dual ultrasonic flow meters are installed directly into the pipeline, which reduces capital costs and shortens the design and construction time.
In 2024, the construction of infrastructure for the operation of the State Primary Special Standard for High-Pressure Natural Gas Flow Rate at the Ural Metrological Center of Gazprom PJSC was also completed. Implementation of the project will provide technological independence of PJSC Gazprom and Russia in general in the field of measurements of natural gas consumption.
Accurate and prompt measurements of gas volume, as well as determination of its component composition and calorific value, are essential for conducting mutual settlements that affect the economic efficiency of natural gas production and consumption.
UGS
Integral part of Unified Gas Supply System of Russia is UGS network of Gazprom. UGS facilities allow consumers to receive natural gas regardless of the season, natural disasters, or force majeure circumstances, and they smooth out any types of uneven gas demand, such as seasonal, weekly, or daily demand, providing between 20% and 40% of Gazprom’s total gas supply during the heating season. Peak and basic UGS reliably ensures functioning of Unified Gas Supply System processing equipment, allows optimizing process parameters and capital intensity of GTS, promoting energy security of Russia.
In the territory of Russia Gazprom in 2024 operated 23 UGS in 27 geological structures: 17 – in the exhausted gas fields, 8 – in water-bearing layers and 2 – in rock salt deposits. In Russia UGS are located generally near the centers of consumption. PJSC Gazprom operates the world’s largest UGS: Kasimovskoye – created in water-bearing layer and North Stavropol – created in the exhausted gas field. For the solution of tasks of ensuring energy security of the country large storages are created.
In 2024, 42.2 billion cubic meters of gas were withdrawn from Russian UGS facilities, and 43.9 billion cubic meters of gas were injected. By the beginning of the 2024/2025 withdrawal season, Gazprom’s operational gas reserve in Russian UGS facilities reached 73 billion cubic meters, and the potential maximum daily capacity of Russian UGS facilities was 858.8 million cubic meters.
Gas distribution
Natural gas is the most eco-friendly and economic fuel for power supply of households and the boiler enterprises, for use on transport. Gazprom annually performs a large-scale complex of works on programs of gasification and additional gasification, so that as many Russian residents as possible can benefit from natural gas.
The leading positions of Gazprom Group in gas economy of the Russian Federation promote reliable and safe operation of gas-distributing systems, implementation of corporate control of observance of requirements of industrial safety at their operation.

The volume of consumption of natural gas (methane) as motor fuel in 2024 was 101 million cubic meters. For last year the economy of expenses connected with replacement of liquid motor fuel with natural gas regarding a fuel cost difference, made 3.2 billion rubles (with the VAT).
LLC Gazprom Gas Motor Fuel continued active work directed on increase in number of gas engine transport in Russia with use of various marketing programs. So, the National Fuel project for conversion of cars to methane on conditions, favorable to consumers, is carried out. In 2024 in Russia about 10.5 thousand vehicles were converted, from them 3.6 thousand units were in the southern regions of the country.
In September, 2024 PJSC Gazprom agreed the Concept of Development of the Market of Gas Motor Fuel in the Russian Federation till 2035 project providing determination of prospects of the gas engine industry, development of measures for increase in the production of the equipment working on CNG or LNG, stimulation of development of the market of GMF and gas-filling infrastructure in Russia. The project is currently being approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.
Gazprom Group closely cooperates with the largest Russian car makers on expansion of a line of natural gas vehicles, including for own needs. With the assistance of Gazprom, pilot projects on application of GMF for agricultural machinery in Russia (Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Tatarstan) and also in Belarus are implemented.
Low-tonnage LNG
Gazprom Group develops in Russia production and use of low-tonnage liquefied natural gas for autonomous gasification of settlements, considerably remote from main gas-pipeline, and for refueling motor transport, the agricultural and career machinery, water and railway transport. Work on these directions is conducted by subsidiaries (LLC Gazprom Helium Service and LLC Gazprom Transgaz Ekaterinburg) and joint ventures of the Gazprom Group (LLC Gazprom Gas Motor Fuel and LLC Gazprom LNG Technology).
As of December 31, 2024 at various stage of realization there were nine projects on creation of low-tonnage LNG productions with a general design performance of 203.7 thousand tons in the Amur, Belgorod, Leningrad, Tver, Tomsk, Tula and Tyumen regions.
Last year 45.7 thousand tons of low-tonnage LNG was realized that is 22.5 thousand tons more than in 2023. Growth of volumes of realization is caused by input in 2023-2024 of new complexes on liquefaction of natural gas of LLC Gazprom Helium Service in the Amur and Volgograd regions and LLC Gazprom LNG of Technology – in the Republic of Tatarstan.
Processing
Gazprom consistently develops the overworking complex for providing the Russian economy with products which are demanded in a set of the industries and is a basis of further production cycles. On the basis of products of processing of gas and other hydrocarbons the domestic enterprises make a wide range of products, necessary to consumers.
In 2024 on refinery capacities of Gazprom Group without raw materials supplied by the customer 56 billion cubic meters of natural and associated gas were prepared and processed, primary refining of oil and stable gas condensate of 58.3 million tons was provided. In 2022 the rate on gas was 34.7 billion cubic meters. Increase in volumes of preparation and processing of gas by the Gazprom Group is generally connected with start-up in work of new capacities on the Amur GPP.
Production of commodity helium increased 3.69 million cubic meters in 2022 to 12.65 million cubic meters in 2024. Growth of volumes of production of commodity helium by Gazprom Group is connected with work of two installations of production of helium on the Amur GPP. PJSC Gazprom has own competences on all production and marketing chain of helium – from production and processing of gas with the high content of helium before liquefaction of helium and its deliveries to the internal and world markets.
Owing to increase in volume of primary oil refining and stable gas condensate the Gazprom Group increased production of oil products. The main gain fell on production of automobile gasoline, diesel fuel and base oils. Last year, Gazprom Group’s processing complex mastered the production of new types of products, including sintered needle-like petroleum coke and new grades of PG bitumen. Needle coke is an important raw material for the metallurgical, atomic, chemical, space industries. This product is used at production of the large-size and high-power graphitized electrodes for steel industry.
From the moment of receiving by Gazprom Group of control over activity of LLC Sakhalin Energy at the plant on large-capacity LNG production of the Sakhalin-II project 7.43 million tons of LNG were produced (all for 2024 – 10.20 million tons of LNG).
Power industry
Gazprom Group has been successfully implementing large-scale investment projects in the electric power industry for many years. It is creating new generating capacities and modernizing existing power plants, relying on the industrial potential and advanced developments of domestic enterprises.
Gazprom Group has established Gazprom Energy Holding, Russia’s largest vertically integrated electric power holding company, which combines assets in the generation of electric and thermal energy, transmission and distribution of thermal energy, as well as assets in related segments such as energy engineering and repair and service services for the engineering complex. In October 2024, Gazprom Energy Holding’s organizations received the state-owned shares of TGK-2, one of the largest thermal energy companies in the North-Western and Central Federal Districts of Russia, which produces electricity and thermal energy in the Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kostroma, Novgorod, and Yaroslavl regions.
Gazprom Energy Holding provides heat to more than 20 million people in 30 regions of Russia, including the largest cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, which have the most complex and extensive centralized heating systems. Last year, the Group produced 160.4 billion kWh of electricity and 145.16 million Gcal of thermal energy. The increase in electricity generation by Gazprom Group facilities in 2024 is due to the growing demand for electricity in the European part of Russia and the Urals and for thermal energy due to the relatively lower outdoor temperatures and the later end of the 2023/2024 heating season.
